Wine and food lovers set to soak up workshops at Harvest

Learning the art of cooking seafood, how to get the most out of your wine glass and how to match wine and food, including chocolate, are just a sniff of the selection of workshops set to enthrall those at the Harvest Hawke’s Bay Wine and Food Festival 2010 at Roy’s Hill.

Event organiser Carol-Ann Stubbs said the workshops would showcase the Bay’s world class hospitality skills.

“To have top chef Malcolm Redmond from Breckenridge cooking seafood from the renowned Hawke’s Bay Seafoods is a real coup but there are seven other culinary workshops to choose from and they are all intriguing - it’s going to be a foodies’ paradise,” Ms Stubbs said.

People were booking into the workshops from all over the country and a significant number of bookings were coming from international tourists.

“Visitors are excited to be able to learn about the best of Hawke’s Bay wine and food within an exciting wine and food festival atmosphere.

The Festival being in one central location is a really easy option for wine country tourists, especially when they don’t know the area and are only here for a short time” she said.

Local people were also urged to book into wine and food workshops to avoid disappointment on the day.

“It’s likely most of the workshops will sell out so it’s a good idea to secure a seat now, “Ms Stubbs said.

More than 40 wineries and food producers will showcase their products at the Harvest Festival at Roy’s Hill, in the renowned Gimblett Gravels wine growing region. The new location boasts impressive vineyard views framed by Te Mata Peak and the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day including  the Nairobi Trio and Annie Crummer, Shona Laing, Sharon O’Neil, Debbie and Gala Harwood.

Top New Zealand artists to play Harvest Hawke’s Bay 2010

New Zealand’s best known female singer/songwriters will headline the Harvest Hawke’s Bay Wine and Food Festival at Roy’s Hill, Hastings, on January 30th.

Annie Crummer, Sharon O’Neill, Debbie Harwood, Shona Laing,  will perform together as “Give it a Girl”, with a full six piece band and introducing new talent Gala Harwood

“Give it a Girl’ will perform a string of classic hits plus current singles and songwriting from the talented artists.

Harvest Hawke’s Bay Wine and Food Festival organizer Carol-Ann Stubbs said the high calibre of the artists matched the award winning nature of the Hawke’s Bay wines.

“These extremely talented women have an appreciation for Hawke’s Bay’s fine wines and stunning produce and they are really looking forward to performing at this stunning new venue for Harvest Hawke’s Bay,” Ms Stubbs said.

Harvest Hawke’s Bay has moved to a centralized location for 2010 with more than 40 wineries and food producers showing off their products at Roy’s Hill, in the renowned Gimblett Gravels wine growing region. The new location boasts impressive vineyard views framed by Te Mata Peak and the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges.

Ms Stubbs suggested people booked early to avoid disappointment.

“These women are truly New Zealand’s music leaders and we know there will be many people looking forward to celebrating their music in such an incredible setting” Ms Stubbs said.

One of the featured artists, Debbie Harwood is helping to bring the show to Harvest Hawke’s Bay, “I have taken it upon myself to put these talented well known women together so they can perform their songs to the people of New Zealand. This is an exciting opportunity and I can’t wait!”

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day at Harvest Hawke’s Bay 2010 with a full line up to be announced in December.

Roy’s Hill to be new home for Harvest Hawke’s Bay Wine and Food Festival

One of the country’s biggest wine and food festivals, “Harvest Hawke’s Bay” will have a new look and new date in 2010 with more than 40 top wineries and boutique food producers preparing to show off their products in one central location - Roy’s Hill in the Gimblett Gravels, Hastings, on January 30th.

Roy’s Hill is situated on an elevated piece of ground above the renowned Gimblett Gravels and boasts impressive vineyard views framed by Te Mata Peak and the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges.

Event organizer Carol-Ann Stubbs said the Highway 50 venue would provide wine and food lovers with the ultimate gastronomic experience.

“The views from Roy’s Hill are quite simply breathtaking and as it’s a new venue there will be very few people who have actually experienced this particular Hawke’s Bay vista, high above the Gimblett Gravels.”

Ms Stubbs said that buses would still run from central locations to Roy’s Hill but they would not take people around the wineries.

“The popularity of our Hawke’s Bay wine region has meant the establishment of so many more wineries, spread over a very large geographical area – some of our wineries are 60 or 70 kilometres apart.”

“It will be much easier for wine lovers to absorb the wineries in one central location.”

Ms Stubbs said the event would be able to grow in its new format with a Farmer’s Market and wine workshops being planned.

Entertainment will be announced in mid October with a number of top New Zealand performers expected to shine at the region’s newest outdoor venue.

For the first time in its 17 year history Harvest Hawke’s Bay will move dates, shifting from its traditional Waitangi Weekend spot to Auckland Anniversary Weekend, Saturday January 30th.

“We’ve had a clash with the Sevens in Wellington in recent years, and it has been really frustrating for people wanting to enjoy both events” Ms Stubbs explained.
